This weekend I went to a small spring forward celebration at Holly’s apt, where I immediately sat on the sofa and slept on and off until morning. The next day I had a very faint, blurry memory that I had watched a trailer for a 1980s sci-fi musical about a future 1984-esque 1994 where the earth is ruled by someone or something called The Apple. Impossible, I thought. It must have been a dream.
I was wrong.
The Apple synopis from NetFlix:
Two Canadians, Alphie (George Gilmour) and Bibi (Catherine Mary Stewart), journey into the future (set, interestingly enough, in the now-distant past of 1994) to test their fate at the Worldvision Song Festival. Their sweet and smart lyrics earn them the admiration of many, but corporate giant Boogalow International Music pushes for another team to win. When BIM offers them a contract, however, the pair wonders whether the gift is really a trap.

I’ve seen this movie – a couple of times! It really is fantastic, although it lags a little bit towards the end. It was pretty bananas. I thiiink they rent it at Photoplay in Greenpoint, incidentally.

Seriously? IMDB said that: Reportedly, during its premiere at the Paramount Theater in Hollywood, audiences threw their free souvenir soundtracks at the screen, causing extensive damage.
