Mike Conklin and Mark Asch

October 21st, 2007 · by Andrew · 1 Comment

Next door to us, in 20 Jay St, are the L Magazine’s offices. I think the L Magazine is the most overlooked weekly freebie. And I think that for one reason (who is two people): Mike Conklin and Mark Asch. They also happen to be the music editor and overall assistant editor, according to the masthead. I wonder if I see them on the train every day and don’t even realize it.

Some samples of their work:
Popscene, their regular column, which they describe thus:

Hey, it’s Popscene! Our monthly feature in which Mike Conklin and Mark Asch climb out from under their indie-rockist, um, rock, to find out what regular people all over the country are listening to. This week’s installment features selections from the iTunes music store.

Another Popscene.
Also, CMJ Name Game

Yes yes, it probably seems annoyingly New York-centric and mean to most people, but I love them the way I love Fran Lebowitz.

Mark: Justin Timberlake can dissolve a nun’s hymen just by singing scales in the next room.

    Damn girl!
